The historic Rio Grande River divides our city right down the middle. From a population of no more than 5000 in the late 1800's, Albuquerque boasts more than 550,000 residents now, and makes up about half of the population of the state of New Mexico. New Mexico ranks 12th in the nation for growth as well, largely due to climate and a diverse culture. Albuquerque is the state's center of tourism with its mountains for ski-lovers, the river for water-sports, and history-rich museums.
Originally a sheep-herding area, the arrival of the railroad brought miners to the west that fueled a demand for wool and later, the largest railroad repair facility in the midwest. Immigrants settled Albuquerque in scores, with Pueblo Indians, Hispanics, Europeans, and Chinese populations flourishing in the area. With the diverse cultures blending together, Albuquerque became a unique combination of them all. Homes in Albuquerque likewise show a blend of these cultural elements, offering housing for every taste.
